The Alcorn Immigration Law team welcomes Karla Brashear as of counsel.
An expert in immigration and family law, Karla will focus primarily on family-based immigration cases. She is working remotely from Portland, Ore.
The daughter of refugees who fled the Salvadoran civil war in the 1980s, Karla respects and appreciates all the sacrifices her parents made to provide her with a comfortable life in the U.S. Given her family background, she knew she would pursue immigration law when she enrolled at Santa Clara University Law School.
“As an immigration attorney, my assistance can have a life-changing impact on people’s lives,” she says. “Nothing is more rewarding to me than that.”
Prior to joining the Alcorn Immigration Law team, Karla was an associate attorney at a boutique family and immigration law firm in Silicon Valley. She represented clients in both immigration court and family court.
While earning her master’s degree in elementary education at Dominican University in Chicago, Karla joined Teach for America to work as a bilingual teacher in low-income public elementary schools in Chicago’s south side.
“That experience made me even more sensitive to what people must endure to live and work in the U.S. and what they sacrifice to obtain the services of an attorney,” she says.
