The State Bar of California has peer-reviewed and certified our founding attorney Sophie Alcorn as a specialist in immigration and nationality law. Sophie is the only immigration specialist practicing in Santa Clara County recognized and certified by the State Bar for her expertise.
“I’m honored to be accredited as an immigration specialist by judges and my fellow attorneys,” says Sophie. “In becoming an official immigration law specialist, I honor my dad’s legacy by following in his footsteps.”
Sophie’s approval as a specialist allows her to join the ranks of only 210 other immigration specialists in the state. Less than 0.1% of California’s 250,000 licensed attorneys are certified as immigration specialists. Santa Clara County has roughly 12,000 attorneys.
Recognized by California Rule of Court 9.35, the State Bar Legal Specialization program requires certified specialists to have taken and passed a written examination, demonstrated a high level of experience, and fulfilled ongoing education requirements in the specialty field. The State Bar’s Board of Legal Specialization must approve each attorney’s application.
Sophie has been practicing immigration law since she graduated cum laude from Washington University St. Louis School of Law in 2008.
Currently, she focuses on business immigration and family-based immigration law. Sophie possesses particular expertise in immigration options for startups, specialized workers, entrepreneurs, and investors, as well as pro bono cases. The Alcorn immigration law team also serves individuals and families.
