I became interested in working with the immigrant community after returning from an immersion trip to the U.S.-Mexico border while earning my Bachelor’s degree at Santa Clara University.
During that week-long trip, our student group provided humanitarian assistance to migrants and learned about the impact of immigration law and policy. I believe everyone deserves the opportunity and guidance to pursue their dreams. I feel gratified working with the Alcorn Immigration Law team to help people live the life they dream of in the United States.
I’m passionate about working for social justice causes. One of my earliest memories is of collecting and donating items to a facility for men with mental disorders while visiting my father’s family in his hometown in Mexico. My family taught me to help people to the best of my ability.
Most recently I worked for City Year, an educational nonprofit that places AmeriCorps members in systemically under-resourced schools, in San Jose, where I was born and raised. I learned that educational inequity has many ties to other inequities in our society and that having positive adult role models can impact the outlook and life path of young people.
When I’m not working, I like to watch baseball, basketball, hockey, and soccer when I can. I also enjoy hiking, exploring, and taking landscape photos. And I’m an avid album collector, focusing on alternative music. I play guitar and piano as well.
