Founder Sophie Alcorn is now sharing her immigration expertise and strategies in a new advice column that launched on Tech Crunch’s Extra Crunch platform. Extra Crunch offers in-depth coverage and content for entrepreneurs and the startup universe.
Called “Dear Sophie,” the column debuted in December. What began as a monthly column has expanded to every two weeks. Sophie will answer immigration questions submitted by readers. Click here to submit a question for the “Dear Sophie” column.
“I’m really excited about this collaboration, which will allow individuals around the world to have access to the information they need about immigration law for tech startups,” said Sophie. “The U.S. currently has nearly 1 million open IT jobs. Now more than ever, leveraging immigration as a strategic tool is critical to growth.”
Questions So Far
So far, Sophie has three columns under her belt. Her debut column on December 10, 2019, featured questions from two startup founders and a VC. Sophie discussed how to come to the U.S. to grow a startup and explore the market and meet with VCs. A VC asked how to keep a contract employee from India who enrolled in a master’s program in the U.S.
The Dear Sophie column on January 8, 2020, featured a question about the big changes to this year’s H-1B lottery process. The H-1B lottery is going digital. Employers need to be aware that they need to register any candidates electronically between March 1 and March 20, 2020.
The latest Dear Sophie column ran on January 22, 2020. In that column, Sophie answers a question from a startup founder wondering what visa to pursue as a Hungarian citizen living and growing a company in Germany.
New Podcast!
In addition to the “Dear Sophie” column, Sophie has launched a weekly podcast on the latest immigration options.
